Caretaker

Farm Sanctuary Caretaker

This is a part-time position offering 20–30 hours per week. Starting pay: $20 per hour.

Job Responsibilities

  • Clean, water, feed, and medicate residents, ensuring their daily care and comfort

  • Perform general cleaning and organizing of barns, shelters, and shared areas (including dusting, sweeping, and tidying workspaces).

  • Complete landscaping tasks including mowing, trimming, and property upkeep to maintain the overall grounds.

  • Conduct snow removal from walkways, driveways, and entryways during winter months.

  • Perform fencing and gate repair, including building and maintenance of secure enclosures.

  • Safely use and maintain hand tools and power tools for general repairs, upkeep, and small builds.

  • Support small on-site projects and assist with larger projects as directed by the Sanctuary Manager.

  • Lead or assist with on-site crews to complete assigned work, ensuring all tasks meet HEEFS standards and practices.

  • Ensure all work areas are safe, organized, and completed to HEEFS quality expectations.

  • Support seasonal and operational projects including maintenance, habitat improvements, and property organization.

  • Capture photos and short videos of sanctuary life, property projects, and residents to support social media and communication initiatives.

  • Participate in team meetings, safety briefings, and training as required.

  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Sanctuary Manager or Executive Director.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.

  • Requires alertness and attention to safety at all times.

Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary (HEEFS) was founded in 2014 and is located in the GTA in Ontario, Canada. Our mission is simple: to rescue abused, neglected, and abandoned farmed animals;

provide a safe, life-long home for all our sanctuary residents; educate the public about the true nature of farmed animals; and promote the health and well-being of farmed animals everywhere.
