The Barn is Buzzing
/By: Andrea White
It’s Andrea here, writing from the barns where things are as lively (and loud!) as ever. Thanks to you, we were able to do it again—open our doors to friends in need.
We have officially welcomed FOUR new residents to Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary:
🐓 Prince the rooster
🐐 Emma, Lorraine, and Mimi the goats
Each one arrived with their own story, their own quirks, and their own needs from our friends at SAFE Sanctuary in Quebec, who recently closed their doors. Each one has already made quite an impression.
(They arrived in the darkness of night, so our photos are a touch dark. Here they are on the trailer before welcoming them to their quarantine suite.)
Tired from their long travel, checked into their quarantine stall, in a different barn, away from our current Goats and chickens for the time being.
The Goat Trio’s First Couple of Days
Emma, Lorraine, and Mimi are a bonded trio, but like any close-knit family, they have their occasional squabbles. Emma, the smallest, was being pushed around a bit by her larger companions. For now, she’s enjoying a quiet space with plush hay, special meals to help her gain weight, and plenty of calm company from the caregiving team.
Lorraine and Mimi, meanwhile, are embracing a new diet to help them slim down—without losing any of the love and attention they deserve. Before arriving, all three have tested positive for CAE (Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis), so it was essential they join a herd that shares their diagnosis, ensuring safe and stress-free companionship. That herd is here, because of you. If you didn’t know, we do have a CAE positive herd here at HEEFS.
Prince, the Gentleman Rooster
Prince is exactly that—a royal character. He’s handsome, endlessly chatty, and has already charmed the caregiving team with his running commentary on barn life. He’ll remain in quarantine a little longer while we update his vaccines, then move into Dolly’s House, where a whole flock of hens awaits him.
Why We Said Yes
SAFE Sanctuary spoke beautifully about their departure, and we feel honoured to continue the love and care they began. Welcoming new residents isn’t just about finding space—it’s about creating a home that meets each animal’s needs, respects their individuality, and gives them a lifetime of safety.
It’s also one of the greatest joys of this work. Yes, it adds to our already full plates, but it fills our hearts, renews our mission, and reminds us why your support is so powerful.

Because of You
You help us say “yes” when it matters most. You help us meet each animal with care, space, and dignity. You help write the next chapter in their lives.
From all of us at the barns—and from Prince, Emma, Lorraine, Mimi, and our friends at SAFE Sanctuary—thank you.
